FAQs

How many sessions will I need?

There are no minimum or fixed number of sessions that you need to attend. Your therapist will make a treatment plan with you and will review this after the first assessment session.

In general we recommend six counselling sessions to begin with but on many occasions more or less are appropriate. We will follow the clients lead as we believe that clients can take an active role in determining how many sessions are needed, depending on your goals and level of distress.

Short term treatments often range from 4 – 12 sessions. Longer term treatments can also help with more complex or longer standing issues.

We recommend booking in between 4 – 8 sessions with your therapist in advance. Our calendars can fill up quite quickly.

How long are sessions?

Sessions for individual clients are usually 50 minutes long. The final 5-10 minutes of the hour are dedicated to reflect on the session and booking the next appointment.

Do I need a referral?

A referral is not required for rebates from Private Health Insurance.

Can I claim sessions on Private Health Insurance?

Partial or complete financial coverage may be available through extended health benefits. Your policy should state that “counsellors” or “counselling services” are included.

It may also say “psychological services are covered when provided by a social work counsellor”. Please check your extended benefits plan for details of applicable coverage. Clients are expected to pay for sessions themselves and then submit receipts for reimbursement to their insurance.
